Via Eyespy. the lady in the center: They call her micro chick
Political Gimmickry Politics is a tedious job in developing countries...Well I suppose everywhere. A Prime minister stepped down and made way for another who will prepare grounds for yet another. I think these days GHQ is spending way more time than it used to spend on chalking out political scenarios. Don't and I mean it don't read this statement with a slightest of idea that GHQ was any less intrusive before. Its just that they have nothing else at their hands. Wars they know they can't fight. Work honestly they know they can't so they do whatever they are best at; what every mentally unemployed entity does_waste others time and provide hurdles in their progress. I guess we must do away with our army altogether and turn them into a political party( its not me saying this for the first time). They are all a burden on the national resources. Driving stipends for something they don't do_defend homeland. I don't blame them for that either, they simply ca...
Riddles of current politics. Kunwar Idris has produced an interesting article in today's edition of Dawn. More or less explains much about our politics ands the way they are going. Factually speaking, the president's constitutional powers are restricted to a few key appointments and dissolution of the National Assembly in a situation where either the prime minister loses its majority support or when "the government of the federation cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and an appeal to the electorate is necessary". Musharraf's own scheme of politics has doomed his "enlightened moderation". It remains an empty rhetoric. The tide of extremism continues to rise to hurt the people and the economy. The blame for instability and violence lies where it belongs - the founders of the regime. It admits of no alibi. Jamali thus has to sign his own death warrant to be born again as a leader in his own right ceasing to be a prox...
Inventor of the internet.    He is too young, he is too unostentatious, he is too humble, he is too modest and he is too good. We got all that he conceived for free because he didn't try to patent his idea (or atleast thats what they say every where in the news and papers about him). Finally he has been rewarded for his good deed. He has been awarded the first millennium Technology Prize a one million euro cash award recognizing his revolutionary contribution to humanity's ability to communicate. Seriously if it were not for him and all those who helped develop the internet, earth would have been a much loner place to live in. I can't imagine, for a split second, to live without internet. Not only at the communication level but also at the level of sharing of information across borders and sometimes as a tool to building confidence and bridging differences between two persons, two groups, two societies, two nations and now two civilizations; internet has always play...

Imran Jamima divorced. Sadly imran Khan and Jamima Khan have parted ways finally. The marriage worked for 9 years before the news of the divorce were announced. It is being said that jamima Khan was not able to adjust to Pakistani environment and Imran has reportedly confessed to be a factor in this inability. Imran has been increasingly busy in building his political career and is not able to give enough time to Jamima who is almost half his age. Well the divorce has been settled amicably and the two sons are to remain with Jamima in London for their education. There are also reports that Imran had confessed privately to Jamima about his illegal daughter Tyrian Jade. This confession proved to be the final nail in the coffin.
Judiciary in Islam An interesting and informative article on Islamonline :     "The authorities who deal with legal rulings are first the judges, then the central police, the local police, the appellate authority, the local administrator, and then the market controller." Complicated yet comprehensive system of judiciary aimed at providing with justice righ t at the doorstep of every citizen of the state is a pre-requisite of an Islamic Govt.
Lethologica I have finally found a name for my ailment. The curse, the ill omen, nemesis and....whatever. Yes i am afllicted with the deadly strain of the curse called lethologica. It is the inability to remember a word or a name. Yes thats what it is and thats what i have. At the most important of times when i really need them when there is really a desire to spell out a word or two of importance my little brain blanks out. I don't know why or how but my body knows when do i really need those important words so that my brain and tongue can refuse me one right there and them. Damn you lethologica!
Manuscript Writing workshop! Just attended the manuscript writing workshop organized by our research forum. It was a two day affair where all those who attended were familiarized with different aspects of manuscript writing and paper reading. I think this was a good effort because this helps us write manuscripts in a more comprehensive and confident manner. Also I think I am now well equipped with the tools and insight for critically reading any research paper that appears in the journals. This is an important thing for us doctors as we have to provide health care which is most up to date and also most efficacious. Thousands of papers are published all around the world and one doesn't have the time to read them all. And everything doesn't carry truth. One has to be careful in making deductions. Such efforts should be a regular part of education experience that medical students get in Pakistan. Well done Waheed, Fawad and Fecto.
Death by theory Well i thought psychiatry was a more subtle field in the sense that it involved minimal violence on doctor's part but what is this all about, "Candace was treated by Connell Watkins, a nationally prominent attachment therapist and past clinical director for the Attachment Center at Evergreen (ACE) in Colorado, and her associate Julie Ponder. The treatment was carried out in Watkins's home and videotaped. According to trial transcripts, Watkins and Ponder conducted more than four days of "holding therapies." On one day they grabbed or covered Candace's face 138 times, shook or bounced her head 392 times and shouted into her face 133 times. When these actions failed to break her, they put the 68-pound Candace inside a flannel sheet and covered her with sofa pillows, while several adults (with a combined weight of nearly 700 pounds) lay on top of her so that she could be "reborn." Ponder is reported to have told the girl to imagine...
Mystic River . Well i saw this movie today and all i am whining about since then is that why didn't i watch it before. Why didn't i watch it in the cinema . It's a couch movie. I have simply fallen in love with this movie. Story line gripping and acting directing everything full throttle.    "To see strong acting like this is exhilarating. In a time of flashy directors who slice and dice their films in a dizzy editing rhythm, it is important to remember that films can look and listen and attentively sympathize with their characters. Directors grow great by subtracting, not adding, and Eastwood does nothing for show, everything for effect." --Ebert
Fire Ablaze II Karachi has turned docile and unresponsive to any insult that is put upon it. No one really cares for what happens around anymore. It is just as if everything and everyone is numb. This reminds me of my city in the early 90'S. Before this Jhang was a place most serene and comfortable where everyone lived ever peacefully and completely innocent of the word hatred. People were much simpler and their motives even more. Dust storms were a frequent visitors but never an ill omen of bloodshed. Smoke billowed from the chimney of a diesel tubewell and in winter its ever stretching umbrella of haze prevented the frost from reaching the naked on the ground. Cars were a luxury enjoyed by few rest found there way on foot or public transport. Birds were abundant and ready to sing by the tunes of the season. Trees were responsible for filtering air not only of bad elements but also dust and sunlight in summer. Thus everything was in harmony with nature. If ever a singu...
Harrovian song. Forty years on, when afar and asunder    Parted are those who are singing today When you look back, and forgetfully wonder    What you were like in your work and your play, Then, it may be, there will often come over you    Glimses of notes like the catch of a song-- Visions of boyhood shall float them before you,    Echoes of dreamland shall bear them along.
