He has done it! He has done it in style. He has done it in faith. Muhammad Yousaf has broken the record and he has carved a place for himself in the history books. I am away from home and have limited exposure to cricket here but even that couldn't dissuade me from reading the commentary on my computer screen, ball by ball. Great time of excitement for any Pakistani the moment he hit the ball off Collymore to the on side to hit a four and with it bring down the record that has been there since 1976. Have a look at his year in pictures and treat your eyes with a glimpse of real style and taste of trance in his eyes. The man seems to be ecstatic. There is certain something in his eyes and on his face (apart from the healthy looking beard) that makes me feel he is just asking to be given the next challenge so that he can be upto it.

One of the reasons that our society is so averse to new ideas and knowledge is that we have failed to understand the power that knowledge confers on us. I did not realize what computers can do until the day I worked on one and I did not relies the power of the internet until the day I used it and really used it. The internet where you can stream audio video content online and the internet where downloading a document is just click away is the real internet that gives us power. I have used a dial up connection and that is so slow that it bleeds us to death. Over a dial up connection one can not imagine watching a political debate between one's favorite political idealists. I don't know if I should be writing this. Muhammad Yousuf is just 47 runs short of record that has stood for the last three decades. But the length of time itself is not as important as is the person who was responsible for making it, Viv Richards. Viv Richards is the name that strikes terror in the hearts of the bowlers of his era to this day. He is one class that speaks for itself and thus record of highest number of runs in a calendar season. Muhammad Yousuf is in magnificent touch this year. This is the golden time of his batting. And he is only 47 runs short of breaking the record that Viv Richard held for the past 30 years. He still has one innings to go in this calendar year. I hope that he is able to break this record. This will be a unique honour and will do good to Pakistani cricket. I think this gives me enough of an incentive to pick up the phone and chat with Murtaza as he will be fully able to share the essence of what I am trying to say.

My keyboard has been messed up and with this goes all the will that was left in me to write a few words on this blog. But this does not mean that i have lost the will to go and read all those beautiful posts that all those brains put out on the blogaper (blog+paper=blogaper). I continue to be impressed by this man. This text is from the speech that he delivered somewhile back in 2005. I have arrived back from my first interview at Saint Louis University programme. I spent about 3 days in sint Louis only to discover by the end of my tour that I could have stayed with two of the AKU grads working there. Since I do not like to go on the elist I could not contact them. At any rate, even if I had, both of these grads, are not on the list to have read my message, anyways. I stayed at the water tower inn which is right next to the SLU. The rates are high for an unemployed person like myself but still. There is nothing outstanding about the inn or the service they provide to their customers. Had it not been for the convenience of being close to my hospital I would not have opted for the same place since there were cheaper and better options available in the town. The other downside of the place is that there is no free shuttle from and to the airport or any major bus terminal. And the cost of traveling to the inn, one way, is 16 US Dollars. I am starting on my interview trail. Although it is another thing that i have yet one interview in my trail. My first residency interview is on 14th of November. I did some reading up for the encounter. I am supposed to spend sometime with the residents in the hospital before my formal interview session starts on the 14th. I am looking forward to spending some quality time and also looking forward to meeting some new exciting people. It will be an oportunity to a sneak preview in the professional world of medicine. That is amazing. I will e able to get to know someo f those people whom i have aspired to be these past five years. It is not that i have never been in contact with residents. Ofcourse i have worked in a teaching hospital where there are residents and they are quite helpful and friendly. The race for the match is on and that is the only thing on my mind right now. The race sure is tough and it is no easy job. But there is hope as always and one can see some ray of light at the end of the tunnel. even if not that then still there is something out of all this process. I just hope that it is something good that comes out of this all. There is a lot of ension all around in my friend's circle. Some are worried that they have few calls others are worried that they have too many calls and sill there are those who think thye should have matched this year but could not for one reason or the other. There is despair and there is hope. Let us hope that despair looses the game and hope wins he series for all of us. Ameen!

Yesterday i was free for the first time to go out touring the city. So me and my host, who is a doctor himself, went sight seeing to San Fransisco. It is just half an hour drive from Santa Clara, the place where i am staying. But we took a detour and took the bayride. This is a stretch of road that moves very close to the coastline and one can enjoy Pacific ocean with its surfers on one side and the dry hills on the other side. The road also passes through the redwood forests which are home to the tallest and huge trees in California. the waters of Pacific are reported to be very cold for a visitor like me. Downtown San Fransisco has many beautiful things to visit. We parked our car and went around the city on foot. Had lunch at Cheese Factory. My Step 2CS was on the first day of this month in Los Angeles. I had to fly to Los Angeles one night before and stayed very close to the center at Hacienda. There is a free shuttle service of the hotel that operates from Los Angeles international airport every 20 minutes or so. It is a three star hotel and priced to a student's pocket. Actually there are special rates for students at 83bucks a night. The good thing about the hotel is that it is just walking distance from the center and thus one does not need to worry about transport on the exam day. I took a short walk o the center too. In the center, which is located on the 13th floor of the building there were 24 candidates in total who were taking the exam with me in the morning shift. I had 12 patients to see and then examine all of this leading to a 10 minute session of recording in writing all your findings. If you so desire you can type the same.
