Strange day

It is a strange day today. I got to sleep for 3 hours in the night with minimal interruptions. That is not usually the way it happens on call. I was really groggy in the morning and missed Farmingham risk score on the rounds. So not very impressive rounds. Then I cleaned up my post call work. It was almost one by the time I was done. Then I sat in the resident's lounge and watched the Viking's game which they lost by the way. Its four in the evening and I don't feel like sleeping at all. Strange very strange!

Dark Flow

Scientists have discovered a mysterious new dark flow in the universe. Patches of matter in the universe seem to be moving at very high speeds and in a uniform direction that can't be explained by any of the known gravitational forces in the observable universe. Astronomers are calling the phenomenon "dark flow." The forces pulling this matter seem to reside outside the observable universe... ( link )

Palin Zardari

If you look at it, American US vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and our widower president Asif Ali Zardari can make a great couple together. Sarah Palin is a conservative through and through and Zardari is the self ascribed feudal of our land. They are a bond made in heaven and every Pakistani should be proud of what our president is out to achieve through his tactical and skillful approach. If you think of it the only time tested method of bonding two nations together is inter-marriage of the leaders together. Then again if you look at it with a keen eye you would notice that this is what fits in the exact scheme of the cosmos. Benazir died not because she had to die one day she died so that Zardari could approach Sarah and they could meet in a conducive environment for the better future of the two nations. Beggars can not be choosers yet our president in his desire to act as the perfect beggar chose the most powerful American beauty. Little does he know that his simple s...

My New Dell

I have a new Dell Studio 1535. It was delivered just today and I like the way this computer looks and the way the keyboard feels. I think it will be sufficient to fulfill my needs for the next three years. Will write the full review after I have used the computer a little more. One thing though, Dell promised to send a $75 gift card with it and they didn't. This computer is a complete copy of HP dv series notebooks. The exterior atleast is an effort to capture the HP market that was lost to style and sleek design. The screen is better than the HP notebook. The speakers aren't designed so well in the system and the sound is not as good in quality as I expected. I like it that the power outlet is on the side and not on the back. This gives this notebook more mobility while it is attached to the power cord. The power cord is rather smaller than the Inspiron series. The synaptic touch pad is made of different material than the usual stuff. It is coarser in feel. It is a litt...

Numbers Respected

I was in a family meeting today. Part of my job definition as a doctor also means that when situation so demands I have to provide a complete and essential update to the family members of my patients. This becomes more important and tough in patients who are sedated or who are complex and do not have a definite diagnosis. But we have to do whatever is necessary to involve the family according to the wishes of our patients. It makes them feel empowered and respected and helps us run the show as a complete working team. Anyhoo I do not mean to write about these meetings today. It is not my intent to do so because the intent of today's meeting was to determine withdrawal of care for one of my patients and the result was a not always desired one _ death. We as doctors have great respect for numbers. Numbers determine our course of action. Numbers determine our prognosis. Numbers determine our treatment. Numbers dictate our proficiency as good doctors. We are so dependent on n...

I-35 opening tomorrow

the progress has slowed down a whole lot. Anyways I-35 bridge will be opening tomorrow for the first time since i have come here. It should ease the traffic woes of the morning commute for me. rush hour commute is about 30 minutes to 45 minutes for me and that is a pain on the floor months. It was particularly light traffic on 280 in the morning for some odd reason. For a while i thought that the bridge had been opened for traffic today as the latest updates talked about the announcement of the opening date in the beginning of this week. Anyhoo... the bridge has been completed atleast 100 days ahead of time. This is some solid progress. since the time I have come here the whole length of my commute has been under construction and repair. Right from MN-36 to 701 park everything is being put into better shpae for the preperation of the winters. let us hope that the work is completed before the season changes. It was unusually cold over the past weekend. it was overcast and rain...

President Zardari

The news is everywhere. Suddenly the condemned has become the master and everyone seems to be talking about him. Even the US local media is abuzz with the terrifying news of Zardari taking over the role of Musharraf. People are fearful and disappointed. I think they should not be. We must let go of our pessimistic sarcastic approach towards hardened and convicted criminals like our present president. After all we elected his party and voted for his men in every city and every province. We gave his party the power to nominate him. We voted for his party even though we knew he was the chairperson. So him becoming the president is a natural and logical consequence of our own actions and therefore we have no reason to be complaining about it at all. If he is a criminal and we know about it now then we also knew about it when we were all lining up to vote for him and his men. I remember the blogsphere being all abuzz in the immediate post election time with whiners proclaiming vic...
