Iqbal Massih

The story of Iqbal Massih, the murdered Pakistani boy who became a symbol in the fight for children's rights, is being turned into an animated cartoon, AKI reported... ...Iqbal was a Pakistani boy sold to the carpet industry as a child slave at the age of four. He was forced to work twelve hours a day and at the age of 10, he escaped and later joined the Bonded Labour Liberation Front of Pakistan to help stop child labour around the world. Iqbal is reported to have helped over 3,000 Pakistani children in bonded labour escape to freedom and gave talks about child labour all around the world. But a rebellion led by 12-year-old Iqbal in 1995 cost him his life. He was believed to have been murdered by members of the so called ‘Carpet Mafia’ because of the negative publicity he created for the child labour industry. In 1994, Iqbal was awarded the Reebok Human Rights Award. In 2000, he was posthumously awarded The World's Children's Prize for the Rights of the Child... Read the f...

Shifting Domains

Courtesy my good old friend the crown less shah of the realms of the faithfuls and holy, the one and the only, USK , I am shifting domain names and moving to one that is more akin to my name. This is a test post to see how things are working.

Chicago Tour

Drove to Chicago this past weekend. Short tour and about fourteen hours of driving. It was fun drive through Wisconsin and Illinois. I managed to do 105 on our way back. It was a thrilling few seconds of the drive that I enjoyed a lot. We stopped at random places and enjoyed the trip. Chicago itself was not that much fun as I do not fancy huge sprawled out concrete cities. Food there though was another story and we enjoyed it morsel after morsel.

Blue Ends

Blue has ended after a month long work and seven long calls blue has finally ended, only when I started to like it enough to work and grasp the concept it has ended.  It was a very interesting rotation where I learned a lot of new stuff and managed some sick patients.  I am looking forward to return to Blue later this year.

Adeona

Laptops are light and portable. This is a blessing and a bane at the same time. Laptop theft is a huge problem at US airports and at airports worldwide. There are services available which track laptops for you if you pay them enough. Adeona is different. It is free and it is open source. It is a new and unique idea to track laptops and catch and beat up those who steal them. Adeona collects useful information about the nework to which your computer is conencted and stores it in after encrypting it so that you are the only one who has access to this information. If you have Mac then you can even take pictures of the thief. Visit the official site here . Originally found at MeFi .

Strange day

It is a strange day today. I got to sleep for 3 hours in the night with minimal interruptions. That is not usually the way it happens on call. I was really groggy in the morning and missed Farmingham risk score on the rounds. So not very impressive rounds. Then I cleaned up my post call work. It was almost one by the time I was done. Then I sat in the resident's lounge and watched the Viking's game which they lost by the way. Its four in the evening and I don't feel like sleeping at all. Strange very strange!
