I have been in transition lately. Moving back to college after a break of 6 weeks. I should say i did enjoy the holidays. They were more of a sleeping exercise and at times i love sleeping. But it was not all that smooth going all the way there were hiccups. Last week of vacations was particularly not the way i wanted it to be. I had planned to go to lahore so that i could join the party there but had to knock down my plans because of red eyes 'viral conjuctivitis'. Whole fun plan was ruined for me. Everyone was there enjoying and having fun and for me life was reduced to putting eye drops in my eyes and wishing that they would get better soon. Anyhow things go the way they like to go one can't do anything about it. These vacations were a new experience in terms of surfing the net. Suddenly cyber space seems to be so hugew that there are no boundries. Had to travel to karachi alone as the party had chosen to be airlifted and i have least tendency to be air lif...
Pkistani govt. has banned newsweek's latest edition in Pakistan. It contained some controversial articles about Quran. The link to the article One of my friends commented that it would have been better if this issue had been allowed to reach Pakistan so that we could come up with a suitable answer to the allegations made there in. I agree to his point in full and wrote to him thus "Assalam-o-alikum, .....The main weak point that I found in the article is that the professors name has been kept for the fear that he might be harmed whereas at the same time it is said that all his new revelations about Quran will be published in form of a book soon. Another point is that the professor has some serious stuff he is talking about and that is "The original Quran, Luxenberg contends, was in fact a Christian liturgical document". Yar and then I think the whole point of all this article is made very clear in the following sentences "In the West, questioning the...
Star Gazing. The other day our part of the world witnessed heavy rains after a long spell of drought. It rained for almost 2 hours at a go_no stopping what so ever. And as has been a routine since time immemorial the happy start culminated in a power failure this went long into night. As sitting indoors seemed an open invitation to mosquitoes I chose instead to be out doors and what better place to be than the very own roof of ones home. Steady wind blowing had swept away the thundery cloud. As the drops of rain, pouring earlier in the day, had cleansed the intervening atmosphere it was a wonderful sight to see numerous stars shining ever brighter in the sky. It was spell bounding. No moon still the sky shone as if God had turned on billions of light bulbs in the sky which lit not only this tiny part of the earth but also the heart of a gazer like me. This reminded me of my earlier days, when I didnt have so much on my mind, thus, spent quite some time staring at and wo...
Sleep is a very precious blessing for every soul on this planet. My hostellite buddies, especially uzer will agree to this statement. So why do we dream? via scientific american online.
Within a century after the death of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, the Muslims not only conquered new lands, but also became scientific innovators with originality and productivity. They hit the source ball of knowledge over the fence to Europe. By the ninth century, Islamic medical practice had advanced from talisman and theology to hospitals with wards, doctors who had to pass tests, and the use of technical terminology. The then Baghdad General Hospital incorporated innovations which sound amazingly modern. The fountains cooled the air near the wards of those afflicted with fever; the insane were treated with gentleness; and at night the pain of the restless was soothed by soft music and storytelling. The prince and pauper received identical attention; the destitute upon discharge received five gold pieces to sustain them during convalescence. While Paris and London were places of mud streets and hovels, Baghdad, Cairo and Cordova had hospitals open to both male ...

A Birmingham man's satirical Web page clocked up more than a million visits last week A Web site lampooning the United States' inability to locate weapons of mass destruction in Iraq has become one of the biggest hits on the Internet. The site , which is designed to look like a genuine error message -- replete with "bomb'' icon -- was last week the top result when the phrase "weapons of mass destruction'' was entered into one of the Web's top search engines, Google. And despite being five months old -- a veteran by Internet standards -- the site is more popular than ever and is attracting over a million hits a week. Linking to the page from Google yields the message "These Weapons of Mass Destruction cannot be displayed,'' and suggests that the country might be experiencing technical difficulties. Because it looks like an authentic error message, many Internet users were under the impression Google had been hacked. ...
