We have this issue being debated, with keen interest on calss mail of beliefs and rituals. The problem in question was brushing teeth while fasting. Some are of the view that it is permissible on the basis that brushing teeth is imperative as we have lots of public contact in the day when we deal with patients and we must not be smelling like rottten rats from our mouths. Also these people believe that actions are judged by the intentions behind them. Since the intention behind brushing is not to nourish hungry bellies thus it is permissible.
Now there is another group of self acclaimed philosophers who have struck back on the above notion with full force. They site fattawa in support of their notion claiming that tooth paste contains sweet taste and thus is not permissible while one is fasting. They have a point of view that one must not come up with reasons when adhering to islamic injunctions and follow them in full without any exception whatsoever.
There is another group of people who seem quite uninterested and weary of all this discussion going on and are passing on request after request to stop it as this fills most of their mail box. I may have certain reservations about both point of views but this third group of people are mere petenders who have, to this point, not developed intellect, sufficient enough, to understand issues and take part in conversations, in a healthy way.
All i think about this whole idea of brushing is simple and can be conveyed in this verse by Iqbal
"Yeh misrah likh diya kis shaokh nay mehrab-e-masjid per,
yeh nadan gir gai sajday main jab waqt-e-namaz aya."

The ultimate tragedy with this ummah is that we have driven ourselves into quarrels over trivial matters of little significance. Instead of recognizing and trying to workout solutions for the real challanges faced by the ummah we try and out wit our selves on these petty non issues. But i have fare enough confidence that once the young generation realizes this tragedy it will rise to the occasion. Once again we will have among us scholars, philosophers, scientists, musicians, mystics and men of art as great as Ghazali, Kindi, Razi, Ibn Sina. And this day is not far away!

Learning Arduino 1

This holiday season I decided to gift myself some basic electrical components in the form of a Arduino UNO set from Elegoo. I have always had a desire to tinker with electronics and in gifting myself this basic set I am now starting on a journey to quench my inner electrical workman's thirst. I hope to develop this hobby as I move forward and will, from time to time, post about it here on the blog. As the journey moves forward I am sure to run into trouble and issues. But as they say you can not master anything without first being a fool at it, so I have decided to remain a fool at it until I am a little good at it. To start with, I do possess some elementary knowledge in electronics and electronic circuits. I intend to further my knowledge using the world wide web and following some very useful video channels on youtube. I will first start with some very basic projects to familiarize myself with Arduino and basic electronic circuits and techniques such as soldering. Then graduall...

XBOX ONE controller

I have been using the new xbox for many days now. The most important part of the console is obviously it's controller as this is the part we interact with most. In comparison to the xbox 360 controller the build quality of this controller seems slightly compromised. There is little counter weight in the wings of this controller and therefore it does not feel quite as sturdy in hand as the old one. However the shape has been elongated a bit and this actually probably compensates for the weight issue. All the buttons are within reach of my fingers which is good. One thing I have liked about the xbox controller is the snug fit in my hands. This is unlike sony's six axis controller. Those are obviously made for smaller hands. The sony controllers are much sturdier as I have learnt over the years I have had the play station. They took a lot of beating but came out winning. I don't think I expect same quality from the xbox controllers.  Also I have been getting a taste of Microso...

Xbox ONE

I have recently purchased the newest version of Microsoft's gaming consoles, the Xbox One . This is a shift from my prior gaming system which was Sony's PS3 . I loved PS3 and preferred it over Xbox 360 for many reasons. It was smarter looking, faster, could play Blu rays, good games and all my friends had PS3s. However the most like able thing about it was the free online game play that Microsoft does not allow. Things I did not appreciate in Sony were its user interface. The move bundle was a waste of money for all intent and purposes as I used it once in the past two years. So this time around I decided to go with Microsoft's game console. The decision was not easy. Obviously PS4 has some good press out there and it is a step forward in technology. However now Xbox can play blu rays too. Also now both consoles require a subscription service for online game play. This sort of made me feel like Sony didn't care for us anymore. I guess paying money might mean better e...
