Sample.    A sample is a subset of the population -- the part that is actually being observed and studied. Because researchers rarely can study whole populations, inferential statistics are almost always needed to draw conclusions about a population when only a sample has actually been studied.    See how it all goes. Because the whole population is too big to be studied a part or ahould i say a representative part of the population is selected for observations. But my problem is that the whole population is a sample now for one set of research or another. There are so many trials and surveys going on in the world at any point in time that almost every living being (and even those who are dead) are under the scrutinizing eye of a researcher or two. We are all one big sample!
Number divide.    The medical community has been riddled with the problems of explaining numbers to the layman, since the day medical research started making headway. A significant number of research papers are published every month in innumerable medical journals in circulation on the globe. The researchers tell us figures and stats that enhance our ability to ascertain the right treatment modality for our patients at any given moment. Studies conducted all over the globe reject or recommend, based on their findings, different types of treatment modalities and lifestyles. Medical professionals and mainly doctors are the ones responsible for sharing this information with the ultimate consumer of the product_ the patient.    With increasing trend towards informed consent in any procedure or medical treatment undertaken by the doctors it is becoming evidently difficult for the doctors to explain to their patients what do all this research going on in the ...
Keith L. Moore.    God has mysterious ways. When I entered medical school anatomy seemed to be the most difficult subject to master. There were numerous muscles, bones, veins, arteries and organs that formed what we call a human being. Remembering each seemed a daunting task. Were it not for exceptionally good teachers and equally well written books none of us would have gone through this difficult time with flying colours. If one good book in Anatomy deserves mention then it has to be the one written by Keith L. Moore. I remember almost 98% of my class resorted to this book for learning their anatomy and none ever objected to any aspect.    The good news is that Keith L. Moore has embraced Islam. The soul has been kindled with light by Allama Tahir-ul-Qadri. May Allah give wisdom of thought and opportunity to see light and direction to many more souls. Ameen. News courtesy of Shehzad.
Children of Dictatorship.    I was going through my regular reading of some of the selected Chowk articles and this one in particular caught my eye. That is so mainly because of my recent interest in the youth of this country. the article is well writ but the ensuing discussion is more interesting to me. Read it here
Sindh Provincial Youth Convention.    I had a chance to represent my university at the first ever Sindh provincial youth convention at the Karachi University. The event was held in the arts auditorium of the KU from 9 th February to 11 th February. The mega event, that it was, attracted lots of media attention as well as comments from various circles of the society. It was organized with the active help of HEC in order to select student representatives from provincial level to represent Sindh at the annual youth convention in Islamabad.    The event was a very interesting affair as far as I was concerned. We were invited on a very short notice and very few details as to the format of the event were made available. So much so that the themes for the convention were revised on the very last day. I was a part of a three member team sent the the way of Karachi University for the convention. None of us was in a very declamatory mood thus we decided to k...
Ghulab Jaman.    I have been taking my time in writing my posts so that I have enough to fill atleast some space on the page. As for our adventure just yesterday we undertook the sweet fun of making ghulab jamans at our very own place of residence, that is, male hostel. The initial plan was to make about 24 pieces of art but we ended up making 50! How did that happen don't ask me_ ask Mujtaba , the senior cook. But they say everything has a good reason to it so did this error. Almost half the hostel had a taste of our delicious delicacy. I must admit to it that if ghulab jamans are served hot with shera dripping from everywhere they are much more tasty and will definitely burn your mouth!    In other news I have registered for LIMSC. Still lots of things to take care of in rather short period of time. In these two weeks of imposed optimism I have rather done a lot in terms of completing tasks that were long overdue. Let us see how long this self ...
You speak eloquently and have seemingly read every book ever published. You are a fountain of endless (sometimes useless) knowledge, and never fail to impress at a party. What people love: You can answer almost any question people ask, and have thus been nicknamed Jeeves. What people hate: You constantly correct their grammar and insult their paperbacks. What Kind of Elitist Are You? brought to you by Quizilla and this is the worst assesment of me ever!
