Sample.
A sample is a subset of the population -- the part that is actually being observed and studied. Because researchers rarely can study whole populations, inferential statistics are almost always needed to draw conclusions about a population when only a sample has actually been studied.
See how it all goes. Because the whole population is too big to be studied a part or ahould i say a representative part of the population is selected for observations. But my problem is that the whole population is a sample now for one set of research or another. There are so many trials and surveys going on in the world at any point in time that almost every living being (and even those who are dead) are under the scrutinizing eye of a researcher or two. We are all one big sample!
