The doctor that I am I had started to get used to it. Time is flying by and so are my feelings of compassion for the victims of this earthquake. I guess this has something to do with me being a doctor. We are trained to feel the pain and suffering of our patients at one hand and on the other we are taught, through gradual process of acclimatizing, to suppress the emotional aspect of human suffering. Thus in times of extreme pain we act not on the vim of our emotions and epinephrine but rely on the working of our brains. This they say promotes higher levels of output.
I was almost all set to write a long post about the recent burning of Taliban corpses by the American army in Afghanistan which, by the way, is in complete disrespect to the Geneva convention. But then I tuned my TV for the latest update on quake. The scenes were mind shattering, the suffering is immense, the pain unrelieving, the cold uncompromising and the access to help still unavailable. This nation is passing through a really testing time. May Allah have mercy over us all for if He doesn't do so we are all set to be doomed soon.
Just came across another perspective on the dogmatic approach of religion to this earthquake. I think this can be sighted as a severe warning to all those who have been given the responsibility to rebuild and help, namely the Pakistani nation.
I am watching the telethon on the Saudi national TV that is being specially aired for collecting funds for the earthquake victims. I have been reading about the swift and generous response shown by the Turkish nation. I heard the Turkish prime minister tell the media that daughters of his nation have donated their jewellery for the relief effort. I am hearing about a similar telethon on the AlJazeera TV. May God reward them all for their effort.
