Doctors of the legion,
No one asks for it no one likes it but it happens. Disasters strike at most inconvenient hours and leave many stranded and perplexed. The unfortunate circumstances arising from the natural disaster herald our active participation in the relief work. We might not realize this but we are certified doctors capable of providing health care services of basic level to all those who ask for it. With casualties rising into thousands (some early estimates fear 18,000 dead and 45,000 wounded) it is our duty to help the unlucky lot. Afterall we are all one under one God and part of humanity at large.
Therefore i request thee, most capable men and women of this honoured legion, to come forth and help out the vicitms of this quake.
We can work on four lines,
1) Try and contribute monetarily into the president's Fund.
2) Those who are closest to the destruction can offer their voluntary services for relief work and health care services.
3) Pray for the loss to be minimal.
4) And as Shahzad suggested very wisely (and here i feel my class with me) We can do with a black and white version of the year book and instead, if possible, donate part of the money to the relief fund. For i fear if we act selfishly here the agony and pain of the poor will sap colours from the memories of our year book forever.
5) To do the least donate blood for once.
Fom the information that i have gathered Medicins sans frontiers is in the region and also pakistan boy scouts are sending in their scouts. We can associate with them. All you have to do is contact the local office. They are more than willing to accept you offers. REd crescent is another option.
Abdul Waheed has been closest to these disaster control programmes and his help can be sought.
So my dear friends and colleagues these times call for some practical and fruitful efforts. Let time remeber us not as doctors who preferred the warmth of their mothers laps to few days work in heat and sun but by those men and women of the elite legion who worked day in and day out to bring health and comfort to thousands of souls.
Most of all when we look back at these times our heads should be held high in pride for we helped our people and did not wait for the foreign help to arrive.
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE HOWEVER SMALL IT MAY BE!
