A

I have a lot to write about today. It has been quite some time since I posted a good healthy post. One was long over due.
So I will start with writing about the red blood cells in human bodies. It is very interesting to note that these are the very cells that are responsible for transferring whatever Oxygen there is in our body. Since all humans rely on Oxygen for their metabolism needs this molecule is absolutely essential for all the cells of the body except one. The only problem being that this cell that is loaded with Oxygen for almost half of its life span of 120 days it can't use that oxygen for its own energy requirements. Ironically all RBC (red blood cells) lack the ability to use Oxygen to run their metabolic functions and thus live otherwise. Irony will be an insufficient word here. There is one other class of cells in the body with similar fate but lesser irony involved. These are the renal medullary cells.
The temperatures in the country are plunging and in the process yielding the unforgiving chill in the weather. Lahore has experienced sub zero temperatures for the third day in row today. Jhang being a similar, rather more dry, climate must be a degree lower. Somewhere around -3C at night times. There was some rain about a week back and that has kept the fog at bay. The day is much much clear and one can see to quite some distance. Infact one of my early day chores comprises of enjoying the deep blue sky and the clear horizon in this farmhouse, away from all the pollution of the city.
The activity on our group's email list has dropped to zero for the past two weeks. My efforts to revive some kind of activity over that elist have turned up no or very little response. I have given up trying not because no one replies but because I too don't have time these days to indulge into activities other than my studies.
The studies are again gaining tempo. Through much trial and error I have realized, like a million times before, that I am essentially nocturnal in habit. I am regularly clocking good study hours. Today was a little extra to compensate for the eid break. I pray and hope that I can continue these good habits for much longer. A good playlist running in the background gives me much needed breaks after every minute, whenever my concentration breaks loose.
Have been listening to The Corrs a lot recently. Sometimes interspersed with a little from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Counting Crows with Colorblind also provide exactly 3 minutes and 24 seconds of reprieve.
Eid will be celebrated on this coming wednesday. Soon afterwards I will be visiting Lahore for a two day tour. Looking forward to that. But if only I could manage to meet my targets in terms of my studies.
I am in consultation with a company for a job in its Lahore based office. Actually anyone who takes up the job will be responsible for the setting up of the office. It pertains to the field of medical technology and instrumentation. Pretty interesting job and I want to take it up but the only problem is that with my tight study schedules I might not be able to do justice with my job. Then again I will have to move out to Lahore which in itself is a tremendous task in undertaking.

Learning Arduino 1

This holiday season I decided to gift myself some basic electrical components in the form of a Arduino UNO set from Elegoo. I have always had a desire to tinker with electronics and in gifting myself this basic set I am now starting on a journey to quench my inner electrical workman's thirst. I hope to develop this hobby as I move forward and will, from time to time, post about it here on the blog. As the journey moves forward I am sure to run into trouble and issues. But as they say you can not master anything without first being a fool at it, so I have decided to remain a fool at it until I am a little good at it. To start with, I do possess some elementary knowledge in electronics and electronic circuits. I intend to further my knowledge using the world wide web and following some very useful video channels on youtube. I will first start with some very basic projects to familiarize myself with Arduino and basic electronic circuits and techniques such as soldering. Then graduall...

XBOX ONE controller

I have been using the new xbox for many days now. The most important part of the console is obviously it's controller as this is the part we interact with most. In comparison to the xbox 360 controller the build quality of this controller seems slightly compromised. There is little counter weight in the wings of this controller and therefore it does not feel quite as sturdy in hand as the old one. However the shape has been elongated a bit and this actually probably compensates for the weight issue. All the buttons are within reach of my fingers which is good. One thing I have liked about the xbox controller is the snug fit in my hands. This is unlike sony's six axis controller. Those are obviously made for smaller hands. The sony controllers are much sturdier as I have learnt over the years I have had the play station. They took a lot of beating but came out winning. I don't think I expect same quality from the xbox controllers.  Also I have been getting a taste of Microso...

Tax skirting by hospital systems?

The issue of avoiding federal taxes is in the news these days with Apple being in the spotlight.  Most of the times big companies avoid paying US taxes by skirting their profits to tax havens.  Healthcare giants can do the same theoretically.  Imagine if there were a health care giant that opens up shop in tax haven islands and then uses the same technique that commercial entities use to skirt their profits out of the country, thereby avoiding taxes.  This is very much possible.  The of shore clinics can be potentially used to complicate the tax return filing system here in US.  I could never understand why a completely US hospital system would like to open up a clinic in Bahamas.  These clinics are portrayed as the global reach of the entity but who do they actually serve.  We never hear about them in press or public.  These clinics are apparently manned by some doctors we never hear about.  How does this system work?  I really do...
