The American dream

Much has changed in the US over the course of 5 years. The gas prices have gone up by more than a dollar and other utilities have become more expensive. It is no longer a free ride with security over here. Items of daily use have become expensive too and one has to think before buying anything off the shelf. Companies have been clever so far. They have reduced the quantity just a tad bit to keep the prices stable or hiked the price and given a dissimilar increase in quantity of the product that they sell. The burden of war is showing on the American economy. But even with all this most Americans would not agree when we tell them that the war is costing them more than they are earning out of it. I would not stick to the moral stigmata attached with being a conqueror but there are economic downfalls as well. The question is who is profiting from all this. It is not the average American who is getting any job security or more pays or tax cuts. Rather it is the big corporations th...

Phone Shy

Talking over phones is not my thing. I always try and avoid phone conversations. But sometimes one can't make do. These are the times when my hands are perspiring and I have no idea what I am talking about. I have to schedule my interviews and that entails talking to secretaries over the phone. This is one heck of a job for me. I try and put off the idea for as long as possible. I try and make use of the internet to make correspondence, instead. But in the end I have to go and dial the number and do one of the most annoying things in my life. And that is to talk to someone over the phone. I am just uncomfortable with pauses that arise during a phone conversation. More often than not I am completely blank and it takes much effort to concentrate. I guess I am truly phone shy.

In US

I was looking at my profile for this blog and i was informed that my last post was made about a month back. But again it is not a good idea to keep tags on posts, is it? Still there is no urge to write and explain and expose. The life, as it is, is going at a steady pace and there is not much to harp about anyway. I have come to the US for my final exam in the USMLE series and my interviews for the match this year inshaAllah. I do need a lot of prayers because without prayers i am nothing. The American way of life is different, that i knew from my previous experience but the Californian style is very different, this i have come to know only now. For one thing here everything is on more grander and larger scale than in the north east of the country. Afterall its home to the hollywood celebriies and they have their own style to go about things.

Posting

OK when I said I was back and will be blogging regularly what I meant was I would be posting every once a week. Or atleast that is how it seems to be happening right now. I am applying to new programmes every day and it seems ever so difficult to get into a programme right now. But InshaAllah Allah will help me and so will He help all of you. The internet here is very slow and gives me a lot of pains when I am looking for and reading about programmes. This change in internet speeds has been a more recent phenomenon. I think the reason is that more and more people are using internet in this city and also there are some private players in the game. These private companies bribe the people at Paknet so that the quality of service falls considerably.
