Pakistan happenings

Pakistan is going through an energy crisis yet again. The spokesman for the Water and Power Development Authority was quoted as saying that the power shortage was to the tune of around 1,000 Megawatts of electricity. This is a huge shortage, almost 10 percent of what the whole country uses. The local power companies are making up for this deficit by load shedding. And the most apparent victims of this process are those who are from the less influential parts of the country. I am supposing that conditions are bleak in my hometown, Jhang. Although load shedding was going on for the past 4 months now but it must have increased to a more unbearable level.
In other news oil prices have been reduced for the consumers in Pakistan. the slash came in the wake of plunging oil prices in the international market. The relief given to the Pakistani consumer is little yet much awaited.
One interesting thing to note is that oil companies are earning endless profits not only in developing countries like Pakistan but even in developed countries where public voice is supposed to be heard. I guess it is not the case anymore here. The prices stand at almost 270 cents here in California in spite of the fact that a barrel of oil now costs just 57 dollars in the international market. There is no media coverage of this grave disparity in the prices either. the media is mute as if secretly earning from the profits of the oil companies for keeping their voices down and unheard.
I wish i owned Shell or BP or any other major oil company and was able to squeeze all oil out of the poor consumer so very efficiently. But i know i am not made that way.
The law and order situation in my country is yet again said to be out of order. The PM and the CM are all worried but there is no hope yet for the poor who are afflicted with lawlessness of the masses and hoards. I have little faith in present day govt. of Pakistan in that it will be able to do anything substantial towards quelling this lawlessness in the country. Afterall you can not quench anything that gives you your power and recognition.

Learning Arduino 1

This holiday season I decided to gift myself some basic electrical components in the form of a Arduino UNO set from Elegoo. I have always had a desire to tinker with electronics and in gifting myself this basic set I am now starting on a journey to quench my inner electrical workman's thirst. I hope to develop this hobby as I move forward and will, from time to time, post about it here on the blog. As the journey moves forward I am sure to run into trouble and issues. But as they say you can not master anything without first being a fool at it, so I have decided to remain a fool at it until I am a little good at it. To start with, I do possess some elementary knowledge in electronics and electronic circuits. I intend to further my knowledge using the world wide web and following some very useful video channels on youtube. I will first start with some very basic projects to familiarize myself with Arduino and basic electronic circuits and techniques such as soldering. Then graduall...

Gluttony

There has been a recurring thought in my mind over the past many many months.  Every time I sit on the table to eat food with my  family  I thank God for giving me this opportunity to sit down and enjoy one of the basic needs of living beings.  Apart from the ability to sit down and eat with family I also do enjoy the absolute variety of tastes that are reaching my taste buds.  It is indeed a fact that our table is almost always stuffed with different  flavours by virtue of quite intricately cooked foods with lots of love.

XBOX ONE controller

I have been using the new xbox for many days now. The most important part of the console is obviously it's controller as this is the part we interact with most. In comparison to the xbox 360 controller the build quality of this controller seems slightly compromised. There is little counter weight in the wings of this controller and therefore it does not feel quite as sturdy in hand as the old one. However the shape has been elongated a bit and this actually probably compensates for the weight issue. All the buttons are within reach of my fingers which is good. One thing I have liked about the xbox controller is the snug fit in my hands. This is unlike sony's six axis controller. Those are obviously made for smaller hands. The sony controllers are much sturdier as I have learnt over the years I have had the play station. They took a lot of beating but came out winning. I don't think I expect same quality from the xbox controllers.  Also I have been getting a taste of Microso...
