Shall there be war?

In these times of uncertainty the question remains, 'Shall there be war?'  The answer might not be that simple.  There might be but there will not be war.  One might infer that it is my desire and denial to disagree with all things apparent that drives me to make this statement.  But the case is otherwise.  There is an implicit understanding between the two neighbors that there can be no war for the better of the two and the best of one.

I was reading the news article posted in Dawn about the recent incursion of Indian fighter/reconnaissance planes into our air space in two separate sectors in one day.  Our planes had to chase them out.  It was claimed by our information minister that it was a un-intended mistake by the Indian side.  I know all too well.  But i am not impressed.  The thing is very simple.  It is Pakistani government's necessity to diffuse tensions.  We simply can not afford a war on our eastern front when we are on the verge of turning table on the same people on our western front.  I personally would not like mobilization of forces from western to the eastern front.  On the other hand Indian government has to win the upcoming elections amidst the anti Pakistan hysteria.  They have to show up a face, inspite of the fact that they can not afford a war they want to play their bluff to the full.  They want the Pakistanis to make sure that there will be war if they do not so as they are told to.

So now everything depends on our spineless president and even more worthless prime minister.  Can they play good political poker.  I bet they can not.  the problem with poker is that at one level of your being you have to be one hundred sure that you are going to win and that you are absolutely right.  There is no room for doubt; be it self doubt or doubt in the nation's capability to join hands to go to war as it has done numerous times in the past.  In these times of trouble good leaders draw their strength from their people and trust their strength.  While on the other hand unsuccessful leaders focus on unsuccessful strategies.

This post is not a war mantra and neither is it a scripture to subservience.  The only reality is to realize the international bluff and face it like a man of character.  Justice should be held above all.

iPad 2

The new iPad is worth it's money. Sleek slender design is a plus and so is the light weight. I am not really impressed by the camera as the pictures with both front and back cameras are pixelated and very amateurish looking. It's handy in the sense that I can carry it around while making rounds and access patient information on the go. This makes life easier and for someone like myself this means much less paper waste. I think one added advantage is that I will waste less time on writing down all the information on a piece of paper every morning and will be able to pull it up anytime I want to do so or need to do so. This gives me more time to think and reflect on the patient and spend more time with the patient rather than time in front of a bulky computer. There are new apps I am discovering every day. Tax skirting by hospital systems?

The issue of avoiding federal taxes is in the news these days with Apple being in the spotlight.  Most of the times big companies avoid paying US taxes by skirting their profits to tax havens.  Healthcare giants can do the same theoretically.  Imagine if there were a health care giant that opens up shop in tax haven islands and then uses the same technique that commercial entities use to skirt their profits out of the country, thereby avoiding taxes.  This is very much possible.  The of shore clinics can be potentially used to complicate the tax return filing system here in US.  I could never understand why a completely US hospital system would like to open up a clinic in Bahamas.  These clinics are portrayed as the global reach of the entity but who do they actually serve.  We never hear about them in press or public.  These clinics are apparently manned by some doctors we never hear about.  How does this system work?  I really do...
