Stranded.
A few days back I was going through my class email and came across this email, by one of my friends who is currently doing electives abroad somewhere in Europe. I present it here for food for thought.

assalam o alaikum everybody,

Didn't see this coming----I cant seem to defend things that I believe in so strongly------this is jist of the number of questions patients have for me----------nope 'faith' and 'cause my religion tells me so' are obviously not good enough justifications for doing anything here--------I want convincing(by European logic standard) ans to these

Why dont we eat pork?

why don't we eat non kosher?why is all types of fish allowed?

Is there true democracy in any of the Islamic countries--isn't it the religion that is then pulling these countries down when they are so rich in oil resources?

Why the extremism?------yes it goes against the spirit of religion but isn't it afterall done in the name of religion?

What religion (even if misinterpreted) allows 9/11?

Why don't women work in Muslim countries---how does parda fit with modernity?

Why cant opposite sex people shake hands

And well about Pakistan--------I couldn't even begin to argue with a deleted friend who has been there----

Why do people stare at goras

why are people so dishonest(about prices being superhigh for goras)

Why don't you have maps and road signs

Why don't you have emergency management systems, seat belts, zebra crossings, crash air bags

Why are there so many bombings in mosques/public places

why aren't people punctual

why is there so much of a difference between the rich and the poor

why are you fighting with India when you are so friendly outside?

-----------sigh sigh----- there is a 'global health course' here where apparently Pakistan is one of the 'nishan-e-ibrat' -------well the students had the stats to prove it---

I was asked today by a patient(pointing at an ultrasound machine) do you have such technology available to your patients?!!!----I said yes we have the machine but we have to rub stones together to generate energy to run it-----------------------------

Sincerely
sender(the name has been deleted upon request)

Initially I wanted to write in detail the solutions to these harmless questions but then I thought I leave it for you all to decide for yourself. Afterall we all have our own way of thinking isn't it.

Learning Arduino 1

This holiday season I decided to gift myself some basic electrical components in the form of a Arduino UNO set from Elegoo. I have always had a desire to tinker with electronics and in gifting myself this basic set I am now starting on a journey to quench my inner electrical workman's thirst. I hope to develop this hobby as I move forward and will, from time to time, post about it here on the blog. As the journey moves forward I am sure to run into trouble and issues. But as they say you can not master anything without first being a fool at it, so I have decided to remain a fool at it until I am a little good at it. To start with, I do possess some elementary knowledge in electronics and electronic circuits. I intend to further my knowledge using the world wide web and following some very useful video channels on youtube. I will first start with some very basic projects to familiarize myself with Arduino and basic electronic circuits and techniques such as soldering. Then graduall...

XBOX ONE controller

I have been using the new xbox for many days now. The most important part of the console is obviously it's controller as this is the part we interact with most. In comparison to the xbox 360 controller the build quality of this controller seems slightly compromised. There is little counter weight in the wings of this controller and therefore it does not feel quite as sturdy in hand as the old one. However the shape has been elongated a bit and this actually probably compensates for the weight issue. All the buttons are within reach of my fingers which is good. One thing I have liked about the xbox controller is the snug fit in my hands. This is unlike sony's six axis controller. Those are obviously made for smaller hands. The sony controllers are much sturdier as I have learnt over the years I have had the play station. They took a lot of beating but came out winning. I don't think I expect same quality from the xbox controllers.  Also I have been getting a taste of Microso...

Xbox ONE

I have recently purchased the newest version of Microsoft's gaming consoles, the Xbox One . This is a shift from my prior gaming system which was Sony's PS3 . I loved PS3 and preferred it over Xbox 360 for many reasons. It was smarter looking, faster, could play Blu rays, good games and all my friends had PS3s. However the most like able thing about it was the free online game play that Microsoft does not allow. Things I did not appreciate in Sony were its user interface. The move bundle was a waste of money for all intent and purposes as I used it once in the past two years. So this time around I decided to go with Microsoft's game console. The decision was not easy. Obviously PS4 has some good press out there and it is a step forward in technology. However now Xbox can play blu rays too. Also now both consoles require a subscription service for online game play. This sort of made me feel like Sony didn't care for us anymore. I guess paying money might mean better e...
