I was listening to the recent SAARC summit on our television. I got a chance to listen to the speech by the Indian Prime Minister. I was listening to this great Indian economist Prime Minister for the first time ever. His speech was mostly objective based and to the point. He meant business and was ready to put forward many relative incentives for the development of cooperation amongst the member countries of the state.
More important thing is that I got this feeling of realization in speech. He knew he was the head of state of one of the most powerful countries in the state and thus he realized that he has to talk business. He realized fully that he needs to tap at various human and natural resources in order to develop into a giant. He, most of all, realized that providing opportunities for proper higher education were an absolute must if we wanted to move forward.
During his speech he put forward many new, or not so new, ideas. Most important for me was the one involving the field of medicine. He proposed to build an infrastructure for telemedicine in the member countries. He even proposed to build the infrastructure with the already present expertise in his country. If this idea is put into realization this would mean real go forward for the ailing health systems of the member countries. Also in view of the changing world it is almost imperative to build partnerships in the health sector. All the member countries can benefit from the sharing of knowledge in this field. Furthermore this collaboration can pave the way for decreasing tension across many borders. Medicine knows no frontiers it has no boundaries it is for all humanity. This spirit can be used to bring about real change.
The Indian Prime Minister also talked about building an educational network in the member countries for which he proposed establishing a university. I think this proposal is a novel idea and should be realized.
SAARC is known for its inability to put ideas into practice. This has been mainly because of the regional tension amongst the member countries. It is high time now that we work together for bringing a change to the living conditions of the population that inhabits this region. We must also work towards bringing stability in the political processes of the member countries. Only then can we realize our goals.
It is another good news, however, that China is participating in this meeting as an observer. This obviously points towards its wish to join the forum. Since China is the upcoming economy of the world all the member states can benefit from its subsequent induction into the association.
