Putting to effective use the vocational skills of a nation is a skill in itself. Certainly many who have taken the hot seat were not very apt in this skill. This is unlucky for this collection of 144 million people. The political scene in the NWFP and Balochistan provinces of the country is getting worst by the day. I smell a long and tedious civil war. Much to the delight of all those who do not wish well for this land but to the annoyance of many die hard lovers of this land of the supposedly pure. Just the other day a police convoy in DI Khan district was blown to pieces with a remote controlled device. Seven lives were lost in a click of a button. The perpetrators of this crime are evil criminals and no earthly punishment can serve them justice. But then again the governance of the region is not something to be proud of either. Evil begets evil.
High tech devices are for the rich of this country only. Being a collection of beggars we can not afford to equip our security forces with high tech gadgets that might protect their lives. The dictator has a gadget in his cavalcade that disables wireless communication in a certain radius around the cars. This way remote controlled devices can not be set off. I reckon this gadget must have cost the tax payers dearly as it was provided courtesy the dearest friend of the country.
Only thing that crossed my set of neurons was the cheap availability of this gadget for the security forces at large. It should not be difficult to acquire this technology. Certainly with genius level students in the tech universities of this land we can make a custom design which can be cheaper and easier to use. The only thing lacking in this regard is initiative. If some dumb mind in the security control room can be made aware of this bright idea then perhaps the future petrols of the security forces could be made more secure. If this gadget is custom made it will be cheap and then we will be able to afford one for every petrol party. Maybe then it will be possible to save lives of all these security personnel who die because of roadside bombs which are set off using remote controls.
Certainly there could be issues with mobile communications in the area but with good design these will be limited and at any rate life is more precious than a mobile chit chat.
Having said all this I think the solution to the problem lies in never letting the situation reach a point where dialogue is not a viable option. Governance of a region or a country is no simple task and certainly does not fall under the skill list of an army general. Number of stars on the shoulders are irrelevant here. No one cares if you have three or four. All they care is how good a foresight you have. Unluckily we have been blessed with a general who is the most myopic in his kind. Well it can be argued that he gets this quality from his training as a fighter. The kind of struggle he has been trained to wage is at any rate short lived. No wars go on for indefinite period of time except those fought on the ideological front and no army trains its special services people for this kind of war. It is only natural that the dictator falters every now and then. The problem is that he is not the one who will suffer the consequences of his action but the rest of the mob will. He is going to be assassinated anyday his valued chum thinks he is dispensable and then who will be left to clean all the mess and crap that he litters this land with? You me and the rest of the mob of 144 million people.
Even before the Iraq war started someone provided me with a great deal of insight. He told me that after the Afghan invasion the supreme leader of the world is setting its eyes upon Iraq. But it will not stop there and move on to do the same with Iran and then Pakistan. He thought this campaign will serve many fold purposes. It will check the increasing oil monopoly of Islamic states. It will at the same time kill there military might and most importantly encircle the Chinese threat. Having witnessed two invasions and imminence of the third I wonder who is playing USSR here!
