There has been a lot happening on the political and social front of our country. I am trying to keep pace with all the developments but things get difficult with USMLE a month away now.
The World Social Forum organized in Karachi didn't get much media hype as one could have expected. Ideologists and socialists from different opinion groups were there and no Govt. wants their voices reaching the audience other than present at the venue. From what I have read it was a very successful event and organizers have claimed that their targets and goals were all met pretty successfully. This will certainly help boost the image of the city which is marred with violence and bigotry of MQM.
I am much alarmed at the prospects of MQM in the next general elections. The savage party plans to expand its scope as a national party in the next elections. There is a lot of work going on under the radar to this effect. I am alarmed at the sprouting of party offices in other parts of the country and certainly alarmed at them opening in Punjab. These are certainly not good signs. MQM is the Al-Qaeda of Pakistan when it comes to using terror tactics to meeting its goals, which are always evil. The recruitments of youth is going on actively in Punjab and there is a sound political base emerging for the party here. Towns are even being named after those in Karachi or the party leaders. All this progress is sending shivers down my spine. It can be argued that if MQM is to become a national party it will have to streamline its party line to the effect. But even if that is done party goals will remain the same. Also the type of terrorist ideology that this party introduced into Southern Sindh and Karachi can be applied to the society at large and this will not be a very good sign. This party is one reason I despise the army rule. Zia made MQM to counter the weight of PPP in Sindh. We suffered the consequences in 90's of his evil doings. Musharraf in part played the same card to same effect and also has his own vested interests in the party. I wonder if the consequences of this dictator's doings will be national rather than regional. I have every reason to denounce the spread of this evil. I am better off being ruled by no good feudals than these money hungry, vociferous, blood thirsty animals. Well I am not happy with either.
In other notes the blessed day of 12 Raibbi-ul-awwal was turned into death and destruction by the bombings in Karachi. It is interesting to note that just a few days ago a Shia leader was attacked in Karachi and he luckily survived. The bomb blasts took place in a a sunni gatherings just a few days afterwards. Someone is trying to play with the sentiments of the people again. I hope the agencies are able to curb this problem or these killings are going to have far reaching effects.
I am trying to soak into the beautiful life of our Holy Prophet (PBUH). The devotional love of Muslims for their beloved Prophet (PBUH) can never be understood by a bystander. You have to be in it to feel it and experience it. I feel we have to work actively to familiarize the west to the personality of our Prophet (PBUH). If you have any foreign friends do take out five minutes to highlighting just a part of his personality to them in an E-mail. This will serve to decrease distances amongst people of different backgrounds.
This weekend's DAWN has some very nice articles and letters. Anwer Syed is marvelous in his style as ever and so are AC and Kunwar Idris. One of the letters is definitely worth a read. This is by a reader from Karachi and is titled 'One-way traffic'.
Karzai is in India. The enemies are getting together to encircle the foolish dictator. He had a very funny picture in today's Urdu daily Nawa-e-waqt.
