Step 2

USMLE Step 2 prep has been going on for the past 5 days and it is since today that jhai I have started to find the original pace. I think now that USMLE steps can be taken in any order it is much more convenient and better for an AKU graduate to take Step 2 before Step 1. Since the subjects in Step 2 are all those which have been dealt with in the final year any student can take the exam with a shorter duration of preparation. Infact it will not be of any harm if the same prescribed books are read through atleast once in medical school during the rotation. This way a student can save precious time from his/her step 2 prep and be done with it in our case by December of the graduating year.
Since most of the graduates really start their Step 1 prep after their convocation in December the timeline for Step 1 preparation will remain more or less the same.
The benefit of this approach will be two folds. Step 2 scores will improve since the information will be fresh in a fresh graduate from all that he/she learns in the medical school during the graduating year. Precious two months will be saved in the mid of the next year which can be used up for various other matters of life. One can then concentrate on the preparation of a suitable application for ERAS. One can work on getting LORs and scheduling Step 2CS.

Learning Arduino 1

This holiday season I decided to gift myself some basic electrical components in the form of a Arduino UNO set from Elegoo. I have always had a desire to tinker with electronics and in gifting myself this basic set I am now starting on a journey to quench my inner electrical workman's thirst. I hope to develop this hobby as I move forward and will, from time to time, post about it here on the blog. As the journey moves forward I am sure to run into trouble and issues. But as they say you can not master anything without first being a fool at it, so I have decided to remain a fool at it until I am a little good at it. To start with, I do possess some elementary knowledge in electronics and electronic circuits. I intend to further my knowledge using the world wide web and following some very useful video channels on youtube. I will first start with some very basic projects to familiarize myself with Arduino and basic electronic circuits and techniques such as soldering. Then graduall...

XBOX ONE controller

I have been using the new xbox for many days now. The most important part of the console is obviously it's controller as this is the part we interact with most. In comparison to the xbox 360 controller the build quality of this controller seems slightly compromised. There is little counter weight in the wings of this controller and therefore it does not feel quite as sturdy in hand as the old one. However the shape has been elongated a bit and this actually probably compensates for the weight issue. All the buttons are within reach of my fingers which is good. One thing I have liked about the xbox controller is the snug fit in my hands. This is unlike sony's six axis controller. Those are obviously made for smaller hands. The sony controllers are much sturdier as I have learnt over the years I have had the play station. They took a lot of beating but came out winning. I don't think I expect same quality from the xbox controllers.  Also I have been getting a taste of Microso...

Xbox ONE

I have recently purchased the newest version of Microsoft's gaming consoles, the Xbox One . This is a shift from my prior gaming system which was Sony's PS3 . I loved PS3 and preferred it over Xbox 360 for many reasons. It was smarter looking, faster, could play Blu rays, good games and all my friends had PS3s. However the most like able thing about it was the free online game play that Microsoft does not allow. Things I did not appreciate in Sony were its user interface. The move bundle was a waste of money for all intent and purposes as I used it once in the past two years. So this time around I decided to go with Microsoft's game console. The decision was not easy. Obviously PS4 has some good press out there and it is a step forward in technology. However now Xbox can play blu rays too. Also now both consoles require a subscription service for online game play. This sort of made me feel like Sony didn't care for us anymore. I guess paying money might mean better e...
