In the election results of the year 33 former ministers who were closely associated with Musharraf have lost their seats. PML-Q has suffered losses to the seats of those who were stalwarts of the previous administration and were thought to be close to Musharraf himself. the results express more so a disgust and hatred with Musharraf and anything even closely related to him. Otherwise PML-Q has been able to win seats of those members who were not closely associated with Musharraf. So we can safely conclude that this is a an anti Musharraf vote and not a pro PPP or PML-N or ANP vote.
In other news the Govt. is now thinking of letting go of the Chief Justice of Pakistan who has been kept under illegal house arrest since November 3, 2007. Aitizaz Ahsan was freed not until the last minutes before election and now Chief Justice's imminent freedom spell something very fishy. What was so important about him that he was not released before elections? What special situation has arisen now that he is being let go? Is it that this move by Musharraf is meant as a sign of bargain that Musharraf would want to do now for saving his seat. Musharraf might use this gesture as that of good will when he he is on the table with the winners and negotiating his seat.
The other thought could be that PPP, Musharraf and PML-N were complicit in keeping the Chief Justice of Pakistan under house arrest. It is only logical since the Chief Justice represented a serious threat to any future plans of these leaders and their pathetic parties. He was a symbol around whom the nation was gathering and becoming one. He was a symbol of reform and peaceful revolution. His lawyers' movement symbolised everything good a Pakistani ever wanted. Therefore it is only natural that he was perceived as a threat by any corrupt politician in the land. So all of them thought it necessary that he be kept away from the pepole while they made their choices in elections.
I must also note that some of the younger ministers and members of parliament have also lost their seats. To note some Omar Ayub Khan and Farooq Laghari's son, both of whom were ministers of the cabinet and were thought to represent the young of the nation and thus something new. They however proved as corrupt as their fathers and as inefficient in running the ministries as anyone else in the PML-Q. They have been silenced, atleast fot eh time being.
